New air quality plans
Over the past few decades in Hungary, a number of action plans have been set for tackling air pollution. Air quality action plans include a series of measures focusing on reducing emissions of key air pollutants in the regions.
The HungAIRy LIFE integrated project aims to facilitate the implementation of these measures to improve air quality in 8 Hungarian regions. To achieve this, air quality plans are developed and regularly revised in close collaboration with competent authorities. Within the framework of the project, after revising air quality plans for 3 zones (Area of Sajó-völgy, Pécs, Debrecen), new plans were introduced. The new air quality plans have been published for zones (Békéscsaba, Eger, Kaposvár, Szolnok and Karcag), while in two air quality zones (Budapest, Tatabánya) negotiations are underway to determine the most efficient measures.
Local eco-managers play an important role in revising air quality plans. They have been participating in trainings each month since 2021 under HungAIRy LIFE integrated project to facilitate the effective implementation of local air quality measures and to support the development of air quality plans.
Air quality plans are available on the following pages:
- Area of Sajó-völgy, Pécs, Debrecen
- Békéscsaba
- Eger
- Kaposvár
- Szolnok and Karcag
The HungAIRy LIFE integrated project has begun its second phase on 1 January 2021, where facilitating the implementation and monitoring of the measures described in the plans are in focus, and developing new air quality plans are highlighted. Measures targeting air pollution will improve air quality in all national air quality zones.
