Council of Karcag Municipality

The “Capital of Nagykunság” (in the County of Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok) is located in the Lake Tisza Region, halfway between Szolnok and Debrecen). The founders of the city were the Cumans, who were settled down by King Béla IV. of Hungary after the Mongol invasion.

Karcag with its 20.000 inhabitants, is the most populous settlement in the Nagykunság, capital of the related districts, its hospital with regional authority provides health care for approximately 130.000 people. It has the fourth longest border of the country, a typical oppidum town.

Factors determining the air quality of the city:

  • Agriculture, as agricultural vehicles cause dust pollution in a large part of the town

  • Transport, as the proximity of main road 4 and the emission of the north-south traffic passing through the city, is increasing the amount of air pollutants in the air

  • Local population, as improper combustion increases air pollutants
