An Energy Snapshot of Apartment Blocks Is Being Prepared in Pécs
The building energy pilot of the HungAIRy LIFE Integrated Project in Pécs has reached an important milestone: attention is now turning to the city’s prefabricated apartment buildings. The aim is to provide the Municipality of Pécs with a clear and comprehensive overview of how energy-efficient these buildings are and where opportunities for energy savings can be identified.
What Does the Pilot Examine?
One of the three pilot actions of the LIFE project in Pécs focuses on building energy performance. Within this framework, special attention is given to the energy consumption of residential buildings and the monitoring of indoor air quality in public institutions. The section concerning apartment blocks aims to develop an easy-to-understand methodological guide for residents and property managers of buildings constructed using industrialized building technologies.
Apartment Blocks in Focus – Registration Opens
The municipality is now addressing the managers and representatives of prefabricated apartment buildings in Pécs. They are asked to complete an Excel-based calculation sheet for each staircase section of their building.
The spreadsheet collects information such as the building’s exact address, the number of individual units, the condition and installation dates of façade, roof, and basement ceiling insulation, the status and replacement dates of windows and doors, as well as district heating and domestic hot water consumption data. Based on this information, experts will be able to determine the modernization level of each building.
Why Is This Important for the Buildings?
The completed forms will be incorporated into a municipal database that is planned to serve as one of the foundations for future funding schemes available to apartment blocks from 2026 onwards. In addition to gathering valuable data, the municipality’s objective is to make active registration one of the eligibility criteria for future local grant programmes.
The system will not only provide the municipality with a clearer understanding of the city’s building stock but will also help property managers identify priority areas for intervention, whether in insulation, window replacement, or the modernization of building systems. This will enable the municipality to design targeted funding programmes based on actual needs.
Another important goal of the project is to assign every apartment block an individual classification on a locally developed “Pécs Energy Scale” using a dedicated algorithm. In addition, each building will receive a unique QR code. Once displayed at the entrance of a registered building, residents, prospective buyers, or property valuers will be able to access the building’s complete energy profile within seconds, as the QR code will direct users to the building’s dedicated information page.
How and Until When Can Buildings Register?
The registration form will be sent by email to property management companies and building representatives. Once completed, it should be returned to life.panel [at] ph.pecs.hu.
Registration deadline: 20 January 2026
The municipality encourages representatives of the affected apartment buildings to submit the completed form as soon as possible, and no later than the deadline. By participating, they will not only contribute to improving local air quality but also increase their building’s chances of benefiting from future funding opportunities.
