Today, a few monitoring stations alone are no longer sufficient to gain a precise understanding of air quality. There is an increasing need for detailed, real-time information.

Improving air quality in Hungary is not solely the responsibility of large cities. Karcag’s example demonstrates that strategic thinking and long-term commitment can enable a medium-sized municipality to play a significant role in environmental protection programmes.

Many households are still using heating systems, making energy efficiency a highly relevant topic. In Pécs, an initiative launched under the LIFE HungAIRy project provides practical support to residential communities in reducing the energy consumption of their buildings.

The building energy pilot of the HungAIRy LIFE Integrated Project in Pécs has reached an important milestone: attention is now turning to the city’s prefabricated apartment buildings.

On 14 November 2025, the Békéscsaba partner of the LIFE IP HungAIRy project held a press event combined with a ceremonial tree planting, attended by Dr. Anikó Raisz, State Secretary for Environmental Affairs at the Ministry of Energy.

From October 15–17, 2025, the partner network of the HungAIRy LIFE Integrated Project gathered for the 14th time to present the progress of their individual actions, share experiences, achievements, and discuss any possible delays.

On 17 September 2025, the HungAIRy LIFE Integrated Project held its third roundtable discussion focused on air quality plans, which are reviewed every two years by the partner municipalities participating in the project.

On September 9–10, 2025, the ’2nd ATMOSYS Community Workshop’ was held in Budapest, organized by the LIFE IP HungAIRy project, in collaboration with its partner VITO (Flemish Institute for Technological Research) and HungaroMet.

As part of the HungAIRy project, the University of Miskolc established a high-resolution particulate matter (PM) monitoring network in Miskolc and Kaposvár. This network aims to provide a more accurate understanding of air quality and to map environmental pollution.

Thanks to the LIFE IP HungAIRy project titled “Improving air quality at eight Hungarian regions through the implementation of air quality plan measures”, the city of Békéscsaba is now able to carry out extensive tree planting initiatives.
