Pécs Opens Its Renewed Green Cadastre to the Public

The aim of the Green Cadastre is to provide greater transparency regarding Pécs’ green assets, support sustainable urban management and encourage cooperation among residents, civil society organisations, businesses and professionals in protecting the city’s natural values.

The public interface of the Pécs Green Cadastre, designed to support the understanding and protection of urban green spaces, is now available through the pecsifa.hu website. Thanks to the online map-based system, residents can easily explore registered trees, green areas and other vegetation located in public spaces throughout the city, according to BIOKOM.

Each recorded plant specimen is assigned a unique identification number, making it easier to locate and identify individual trees and plants. These identifiers can also serve as reference points for public reports, comments or professional consultations. In addition, data sheets provide basic information about each specimen, supporting quick and accurate identification.

One of the system’s greatest advantages is that, alongside Green Cadastre data, users can access a wide range of additional geographic information layers. These include public area boundaries, locally protected natural areas and trees participating in the FADOPT tree adoption programme.

The profiles of adopted trees also display the logos of participating organisations and businesses, highlighting their contribution to preserving and maintaining the city’s green infrastructure.

The development of the Green Cadastre has required extensive professional, data-processing and fieldwork efforts. Surveying, documenting and digitally mapping the city’s vegetation has been a long-term undertaking, and the work continues today.

The system is not considered a completed project. Experts at BIOKOM continuously update, expand and refine the database to ensure that residents always have access to the most accurate and up-to-date information.

Ultimately, the objective of the initiative is to make Pécs’ green assets more transparent, support sustainable city management and strengthen cooperation among residents, civil organisations, businesses and experts in safeguarding the city’s natural heritage.
