The LIFE IP HungAIRy PM Monitoring Network Turns Four Years Old

As part of the HungAIRy project, the University of Miskolc established a high-resolution particulate matter (PM) monitoring network in Miskolc and Kaposvár. This network aims to provide a more accurate understanding of air quality and to map environmental pollution. Launched in September 2021, the system has been continuously supporting research and environmental protection efforts ever since.

Over the past four years, the PM monitoring website has received nearly half a million clicks and approximately 160,000 page views.

According to statistics, user activity peaks during the winter months, when air quality in the affected areas is typically worse compared to the summer months.

Current air quality data remains publicly accessible, and in addition to publishing this data, ongoing analysis is being conducted. Based on the results, the generation, dispersion, and behavior of particulate matter—mainly originating from solid fuel combustion—can be observed and studied in remarkable detail.

Over the course of four years, 50 monitoring units have been installed in Miskolc, 20 in Kaposvár, and one in each of 10 surrounding municipalities, bringing the total number of units to 80.
